Job Description

As a UX writer, you are responsible for creating and implementing written content for digital products to enhance the user experience. You will report to the Director of UIUX and work with UIUX designers, UX Researchers, product managers, developers and marketers to ensure a seamless user experience for websites, mobile apps, software interfaces, and other digital products.

In addition to writing, they conduct user research and work closely with UX Researchers, develop content strategies and tone of voice guidelines, and edit and revise copy for clarity and accessibility while continuously testing and looking for opportunities to improve users’ experience.

Verbal communication and presentation skills are essential for a successful UX writer, as they are often required to effectively present their findings to the product team, development team and various stakeholders.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Create intuitive copy that helps users navigate with ease through digital products. This might include menus, definitions, buttons, labels, chatbots, and error messages.

  • Review and provide product copy for wireframes with UIUX designers.

  • Partner with UIUX designers and UX researchers to collect user feedback and conduct tests to optimize product content.

  • Analyze existing content, focusing on reuse opportunities and value for the audience.

  • Create, maintain and collaborate on a comprehensive style guide and shared language, standards, and workflows.

  • Manage and prioritize work across multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Answer questions from the development team as needed to ensure successful implementation of product designs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2-3 years of relevant UX writing work experience, Human-Computer Interaction, applied research setting, and/or product research and development.

  • A strong portfolio of written work that shows business impact and results.

  • Ability to deliver high-quality content for product user interfaces with attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in communicating user research findings with cross functional partners to drive impact.

  • The ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously, and multi-task in an agile environment.

  • Ability to jump across multiple products and teams and pivot direction based on feedback in support of UIUX Design needs.

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, including an ability to listen and incorporate feedback from colleagues in a workshop environment.

  • Familiarity with maintaining an online documentation repository using either a Content Management System or a static web site generator and hosting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping tools, like Figma, Framer, InVision, or similar; Figma preferred.

  • Retail eCommerce and automotive experience a plus.
